FOR A LIGHTER FOOTPRINT,
GO NORTH

Protection. Preservation. Regeneration. On our continuing journey to being Ocean Positive, our commitment to taking positive steps for the planet is stronger than ever.
By choosing more responsible materials, we’re playing our part in causing less pollution to water, air, soil, and life. Balancing sustainability, functionality, and purpose has its twists and turns, but the Ocean Positive destination is clear—and our work towards it won’t ever stop.
Across the SS24 collection, we’ve chosen fabrics, materials, and processes that reduce our impact. Here are the highlights.

2024 SUSTAINABLE HIGHLIGHTS

UPCYCLED SWIMWEAR

Recycling is a good starting point, but we want to do more. The Upcycled swimwear in the SS24 collection uses surplus material from previous collections. Using these so-called ‘deadstock rolls’ gives new life to fabrics that would have otherwise been forgotten. Or, worse still, never even used at all. Upcycling is our opportunity to not just recycle, but to repurpose and reimagine. Look out for the Second Wind logo, for clothing that does all three.

REPREVE®
OUR OCEAN™ FIBER

Plastic causes immeasurable damage to the ocean and the life that depends on it. Around 8 million tons of plastic make their way into the ocean from shorelines every year. Repreve® is here to make a change and make a difference. Its Our Ocean™ fiber is made from recycling plastic bottles collected from within 50km of the ocean. Even though there’s a long way to go, using it in the SS24 Collection helps to keep a little more plastic out of the ocean.

RECYCLED SYNTHETICS

Synthetics like polyester and nylon give us the technical performance and functionality our outerwear relies on to keep the elements out. But virgin synthetics use huge amounts of petroleum and CO2, and release harmful microfibers. Going recycled is the only way to go. Over 90% of the synthetic fibres in the SS24 Collection are made with recycled materials, and tighter weaves and better stitching reduces microfiber shedding. So we’re getting there—and working hard to turn that 90 into 100%.

MICROPLASTICS

North Sails Apparel is a member of The Microfibre Consortium, a group of like-minded businesses working together on tackling the apparel industry’s microfibre problem.

OUR PROGRESS
